About Kokosing Gap Trail

Kokosing Gap Trail is a 14 mile long, paved trail - perfect for walking, jogging, biking, skating, and so much more!

The trail is built on top of an old Pennsylvania railroad line, giving it a rich history. Visitors can see wetlands, forests, local agriculture, and two run-down locomotive pieces from the trail. The path also leads guests across two old railroad bridges.

Because the trail stops in many cities, there are plenty of fun things to do along the way. Benches are placed along the path every half-mile, and there are parks, attractions, and bike fix-it stations in the towns it passes through.

Awesome Bike Trail

"Awesome bike trail. Whether you are a novice, recreational, or avid bike cyclist this is the trail for you. Level for the most part. I would recommend packing water and snacks if you plan on a long bike ride. There are benches along the way to rest. Potty rests are at least 4-5 miles apart depending on what part you are on. We did the Mt. Vernon to Howard OH stretch and this is level and you cross some old trestle bridges. A very rewarding ride with views of the countryside and wildlife. We saw a deer drinking from the river! Please be courteous and pack out what you pack in. Let us all take care of keeping the trail clean for others to enjoy. Happy Biking!"

Lots of History

"This bike trail is amazing. Loved everything about it. Lots of history and points of interest. During or when you are done biking the trail, take time to bike and enjoy off trail sites. Each town offers so much history, especially if you stop and talk to some of the locals."

Great Trail

"Have road this trail several times since I moved to this area. Never get tired of it. There are a few places to hike if you want a break from bike riding. I always stop at the train and have snacks while watching people explore the train. Another thing I like about it is you can extend your ride on the Heart of Ohio trail. But you should know with construction going on the trailhead near Mount Vernon is closed. As is the connector trail. Seems like that construction has been going on forever."
